KHARKIV (Ukraine),09 June (HS): At least four people were killed and 10 others injured after Russian strikes hit parts of Ukraine’s northeastern Kharkiv region early Tuesday, according to regional authorities.

Kharkiv Regional Governor Oleh Syniehubov said the attacks targeted the city of Chuhuiv, where four people, including a 22-year-old woman, lost their lives. Emergency services were deployed to the affected areas as rescue and recovery operations continued.

The strikes sparked multiple fires and caused extensive damage to civilian infrastructure. Authorities reported that at least 18 vehicles were damaged, while several residential apartment buildings suffered shattered windows and structural damage to their facades.

In a separate update, Kharkiv Mayor Ihor Terekhov said 10 people were wounded in attacks on the regional capital, Kharkiv city. The condition of the injured was not immediately disclosed.

The latest assault comes amid a renewed escalation in hostilities between Russia and Ukraine. In recent months, Russian aerial attacks on Ukrainian cities have intensified, frequently causing civilian casualties and damage to residential areas.

Ukraine has also stepped up long-range drone operations targeting sites inside Russian territory. Ukrainian officials maintain that these strikes are primarily aimed at military installations and energy infrastructure supporting Russia’s war effort.

The conflict, which began with Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, has resulted in a heavy civilian toll. According to United Nations estimates released earlier this year, at least 15,850 civilians have been killed in Ukrainian-controlled territories since the start of the war. Thousands more have died in Russian-occupied areas, while tens of thousands have been injured across both regions.
