New Delhi, June 9 (HS): All 24 Indian crew members aboard MT Marivex, a Palau-flagged vessel, are safe and have been rescued with the assistance of Omani authorities, according to information available on the incident.
The vessel is not Indian-owned and has been identified as a blacklisted ship under sanctions imposed by the United States Office of Foreign Assets Control (OFAC).
Available information indicates that the vessel had made multiple attempts over the past several days to cross an area under blockade. On at least three occasions, it reportedly turned away after receiving repeated warnings from the US Navy.
On June 8, the vessel is understood to have made a fourth attempt to pass through the area by navigating through Omani territorial waters. During the voyage, it reportedly switched off its signal transmission systems, making it difficult to track its movements.
Sources familiar with the developments indicated that the vessel's actions raised concerns regarding the nature of its operations and intentions.
The ship was reportedly in an unladen condition at the time it became disabled.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, while all Indian crew members remain safe following the rescue operation carried out with the support of Omani authorities.
