
Bhubaneswar, 27 May (H.S.): Odisha Vigilance on Wednesday apprehended Dhumaram Murmu, ACSO of Champua in Keonjhar district, while allegedly demanding and accepting a bribe of ₹15,000 from a local LAMPCS in-charge in connection with paddy procurement during the ongoing Kharif Marketing Season (KMS).
According to Vigilance officials, Murmu was caught red-handed at his office while accepting the bribe amount. The entire ₹15,000 was recovered and seized from his possession during the trap operation.
Preliminary investigation revealed that the accused officer was allegedly demanding bribes from other paddy procurement centres as well. Following the successful trap, Vigilance teams launched simultaneous searches at locations linked to the accused officer.
In connection with the case, Balasore Vigilance Police Station has registered Vigilance PS Case No. 08/2026 under Section 7 of the Prevention of Corruption (Amendment) Act, 2018.
Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
