New Delhi, May 27 (H.S.): Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday paid tribute to India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, on his 62nd death anniversary. Taking to X, Prime Minister Modi wrote, “Tributes to former Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru on his death anniversary.”

It is noteworthy that Nehru was born on November 14, 1889, in Allahabad (now Prayagraj) and breathed his last on May 27, 1964. He led the country continuously for 16 years and 286 days, from August 15, 1947, until his demise. Among his literary works, *The Discovery of India* remains one of his most significant contributions.

Nehru’s memorial, Shanti Van, is located on Ring Road along the banks of the Yamuna River in New Delhi, just north of Mahatma Gandhi’s memorial site, Rajghat.
