Beirut (Lebanon)/Tel Aviv (Israel), May 27 (H.S.): Amid the ongoing military truce in Lebanon, Israel has intensified its aerial and ground assaults in southern Lebanon, a stronghold of Hezbollah. At least 34 people were killed and 40 others injured in the attacks on Tuesday. Meanwhile, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have reportedly begun forcibly evacuating towns and villages in southern and eastern Lebanon.
According to a report by Lebanese newspaper *L’Orient Today*, Israel’s aggressive military posture has triggered widespread panic across southern Lebanon. Residents are fleeing in different directions to escape the rapidly advancing Israeli ground offensive. The IDF has also launched attacks in the Bekaa region of eastern Lebanon, targeting Mashghara and the strategically significant Qaraoun Dam located further north.
The IDF has reportedly started driving civilians out of the city of Nabatieh as part of its operations. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated that the objective of these actions is to ensure the safety and security of communities in northern Israel. However, for millions trapped amid the crossfire and shelling, any illusion of a ceasefire has now completely collapsed.
The Israeli military stated that sirens are sounding in several areas of northern Israel due to fears of incoming aerial attacks. Meanwhile, Hezbollah has claimed responsibility for 22 attacks targeting Israeli military positions in southern Lebanon and northern Israel.
According to Lebanon’s Health Ministry, at least 11 people were killed on Monday evening in an Israeli strike on a building in the village of Mashghara in the Bekaa Valley.
