New Delhi, May 27 (H.S.): The Income Tax Department on Wednesday launched the online filing facility for Income Tax Return-2 (ITR-2) for the Assessment Year 2026–27. Taxpayers can now visit the Income Tax Department’s e-filing portal to fill and submit their ITR-2 forms online.

According to the Income Tax Department, ITR-2 is meant for individual taxpayers who do not earn income from business or profession, but have income arising from capital gains. Earlier, on May 15, the department had launched the online filing facility for ITR-1 and ITR-4, which are generally used by small and middle-income taxpayers.

The Income Tax Department had notified the income tax return forms for income earned during the financial year 2025–26 on March 30. The online filing facility and Excel utility for ITR-2 for Assessment Year (A.Y.) 2026–27 are now available on the e-filing portal. Accordingly, taxpayers can begin filing their returns.

The last date for filing ITR-1 and ITR-2 for individual taxpayers has been fixed as July 31, while the deadline for filing non-audit ITR-4 returns is August 31.
