Dehradun, August 7(HS): A relief and rescue operation is ongoing at war level since Thursday morning after cloudbursts and floods in Dharali and Harsil in Uttarkashi district. Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with NDRF, SDRF, and administrative officials in Uttarkashi this morning to review the progress of relief and rescue operations in the Dharali area. He also instructed to make the ongoing helicopter rescue operation in affected areas more effective.
The Chief Minister mentioned in social media post that helicopter rescue has started from this morning. Those stranded due to blocked travel routes are being brought safely to the Matli helipad in Uttarkashi. Appreciating the courage and dedication of the teams involved in the rescue operation, the Chief Minister stated that even in difficult circumstances, the teams are setting an exemplary example of dedication and competence in disaster management.
So far, several people have been rescued during the operation, while many, including army personnel, are still missing.
According to the State Disaster Operation Center, 43 people have been safely rescued so far on Thursday, most of whom are pilgrims. Anamika Mehra from Jalgaon (Maharashtra) expressed gratitude to the government for rescuing her family.
Additionally, a shuttle service has started between Matli and Harsil. A total of 8 helicopters from Ukada are operating. 150 soldiers from Rajputana Rifles, 100 ITBP personnel, as well as SDRF and NDRF teams are engaged in relief work. Health department teams are providing treatment at the site. ICUs and general beds are reserved in Dehradun, Coronation, and AIIMS Rishikesh.
IG of SDRF Arun Mohan Joshi stated that all agencies involved in the rescue operation are working in coordination. The state government has clarified that reaching relief to every affected individual and restoring normalcy is the top priority.
Continuous rainfall has also affected lives in other areas of Uttarakhand. Due to rainfall from mountains to plains, there has been a significant rise in the water levels of rivers. In several districts, including Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, Haridwar, and Rudraprayag, roads have been damaged due to rain and landslides, and in some places, there has been loss of life and property.
