New Delhi, August 7 (HS): On Friday, the domestic stock market ended with gains owing to potential discussions between the US and Russia. Initial trading saw declines, as both the Sensex and Nifty indices dropped significantly following US President Donald Trump’s announcement of new tariffs on India. However, after 1 PM, positive signals regarding US-Russia talks revitalized the market, leading to a noteworthy recovery. The Sensex rebounded 926.26 points from its lows, while the Nifty surged by 290.05 points. By the end of the day, the Sensex increased by 0.10 percent, closing at 80,623.26 points, and the Nifty climbed 0.09 percent, ending at 24,596.15 points.

Throughout trading, notable buying occurred in the pharmaceuticals, IT, and automobile sectors, and the banking, consumer durables, metal, and tech indices also closed positively. In contrast, the oil and gas, infrastructure, and real estate sectors faced persistent selling pressure, leading to drops in capital goods, FMCG, and public sector enterprise indices. The broader market displayed mixed performance; the BSE midcap index rose by 0.30 percent, while the smallcap index fell by 0.18 percent. In total, investors' wealth increased by over ₹40,000 crore, raising the market capitalization of BSE-listed companies to a provisional ₹445.54 lakh crore.
