07 Aug (HS): A criminal carrying a bounty of Rs 4 lakhs was shot and injured in
an encounter with the team of Prayagraj field unit of STF near Shivrajpur
crossing in Shankargarh police station area of Prayagraj district of Uttar
Pradesh on Thursday morning. However, he died in the hospital during treatment.
The police team recovered an AK-47 rifle and a 9 mm pistol, cartridge shells
and a motorcycle from his possession. Deputy Commissioner of Police Yamunapar
Vivek Chandra Yadav has confirmed this encounter.
He
said that complete information in this regard will be available from STF. The
vicious criminal who was killed by police bullets in the encounter has been
identified as Ashish Ranjan alias Chhotu Singh, resident of JC Mallikroad,
Dhanbad, Jharkhand. If STF sources are to be believed, then the team in-charge
of the field unit of STF Prayagraj, Jai Prakash and his team had received
information that the mafia wanted in many murders is going to come with his
partner from Shivrajpur road of Shankargarh police station area of Prayagraj
and he is going to commit a big crime.
On
this information, the Prayagraj team surrounded him near Shivrajpur Chauraha
police station Shankargarh and tried to catch him, but he opened fire on the
team with AK-47 and pistol. During this, STF Inspector in-charge Jai Prakash
Rai and three members of his team had a narrow escape. He got injured in the
firing done by the police team in self-defense. The police team admitted him to
a nearby hospital in an attempt to save his life, where he died during
treatment. The police team recovered an AK-47 rifle and a 9 mm pistol, a large
quantity of live empty cartridges and a motorcycle from the incident spot.
