New Delhi, August 7(HS): Deputy Leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha Gaurav Gogoi, criticized the central government over the comprehensive revision of the voter list and the election process. He claimed that government ministers are misleading Parliament concerning the election process and that the ruling party aims to avoid discussion by using incorrect technical arguments.

The government has argued that issues related to the Election Commission cannot be discussed due to unclear ministry responsibilities, but Gogoi pointed out that similar discussions have historically occurred in both Houses. He referenced past instances, including a two-day discussion on electoral reforms in 2005, talks about Bihar elections in 1995, and discussions on electoral law shortcomings in previous decades.

Gogoi also noted relevant examples from the Rajya Sabha, highlighting discussions on electoral reforms and NRI voting in which law ministers responded, emphasizing that such discussions are essential and justified.
