Former Odisha Deputy Speaker Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj Passes Away at 70


Bhubaneswar, 7 August (H.S.) Former Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly and senior political leader Bibhuti Bhusan Singh Mardaraj passed away late Wednesday night at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar. He was 70.

According to members of the royal family of Khandapada in Nayagarh district, Mardaraj had been undergoing treatment for cardiac-related ailments in recent days. Despite medical efforts, his condition worsened, and he breathed his last late last night.

Mardaraj was a prominent figure in Odisha politics, particularly during the 1980s and 1990s. He was elected as a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from the Khandapada constituency three times—in 1980, 1985, and 1995. Throughout his political career, he held several important positions, including Deputy Speaker of the Odisha Assembly and Minister in the state government.

Known for his dedication to public service and his deep connection with the people of Khandapada, Mardaraj earned respect across political lines for his commitment to governance and development.
