Lakhimpur (Assam), 07 August (HS): The Lakhimpur district administration on Thursday launched a major eviction drive in the Fukan Dalani area of Naobicha, targeting illegal encroachments on government land. The drive, which began around 7 AM, was carried out under tight security and saw the removal of both permanent and temporary structures using JCB machines.

The operation follows notices served last Thursday to illegal settlers in the Phukandalani revenue village, warning them to vacate the land. Many families reportedly left the area ahead of the deadline, avoiding confrontation.

No protests were reported during the eviction, officials confirmed.

The state government has been intensifying efforts to clear illegal encroachments on government and forest lands across Assam. Similar eviction drives have already been carried out in several districts, including Dhubri, Goalpara, Karbi Anglong, Nagaon, and Golaghat. Authorities have confirmed that the campaign will continue in the coming days.
