New Delhi, August 7 (H.S.): On the 14th consecutive day of the Parliament's monsoon session, the functioning of both the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha was disrupted due to opposition uproar. The opposition remained adamant on demanding a discussion on the special intensive revision of the electoral rolls (SIR) in Bihar. As a result, proceedings were suspended for the day after multiple interruptions.
Lok Sabha proceedings were suspended until 12 PM, then resumed at 2 PM after another pause,the government managed to pass the Manipur Goods and Services Tax (Amendment) Bill, 2025 and the Manipur Budget amidst the chaos. Subsequently, the proceedings were suspended until 11 AM on Friday.
In the Rajya Sabha, proceedings were suspended until 2 PM due to morning uproar. After resumption, Opposition MPs protested against SIR with slogans while discussing the Coastal Shipping Bill, 2025, which eventually passed amid intensified protests, including Trinamool Congress MP Mamata Thakur displaying a placard. Leader of Opposition Mallikarjun Kharge emphasized the need for cooperation during dangerous times and called for a debate on SIR, while Leader of House JP Nadda insisted on continuing with the bill. Despite the chaos, the bill passed via voice vote before the House was adjourned for the day.
