Gorakhpur,
07 Aug (HS): A security personnel of the Defense Security Corps (DSC) posted on
duty at Gorakhpur Airport in Uttar Pradesh committed suicide by shooting
himself with his service rifle on Thursday morning. As soon as the information
was received, AIIMS police station reached the spot. While investigating, the police
took the body into custody and sent it for postmortem and started investigating
the reasons behind the suicide.
Superintendent
of Police Abhinav Tyagi said that Jitendra Singh (49), originally a resident of
Ankol village of Mater police station area under Chhapra district of Bihar
state, was a retired Lance Naik from the Indian Army. These days he was
deployed in security by the Defense Security Corps (DSC) at Gorakhpur Airport
and was living in a rented house in Jharna Tola area here. Today at around four
o'clock, while on duty in the runway area of the airport, security personnel
Jitendra suddenly shot self with his AK-103 rifle. On hearing the sound of the
bullet, other security personnel deployed nearby reached the spot and informed
the senior officers about the situation. The medical team was called, but by
then the soldier had died. On this information, AIIMS police station reached
the spot and took the body of the deceased security personnel into custody and
collected evidence from the spot.
During
interrogation, colleagues told that the deceased security guard Jitendra Singh
was known for his very calm nature, disciplined lifestyle and honest dedication.
Everyone is shocked over his suicide. Prima facie, family discord or mental
stress is being considered the reason for suicide. The family members have been
informed about the incident and the body has been sent for postmortem and
investigation is being done.
