Senapati (Manipur), 07 August (HS):
In an ongoing special operation targeting individuals without valid Inner Line Permits (ILP), the Manipur Police has verified a total of 2,412 persons in the Senapati district.
As per the official release issued on Wednesday, out of those verified, 170 individuals did not possess ILP documents, while 134 were found with expired permits. These defaulters were escorted to the Mao Gate ILP counter to regularise their documents before being allowed to continue their journey.
Launched last week, the verification drive is being carried out under the direction of the Senapati District Police Task Force. The operation spans key locations including National Highway-2, Maram-Peren road, Tadubi-Tolloi road, and various inter-village routes falling under multiple police station jurisdictions in the district.
Despite the number of permit-related violations, police have not detected any illegal immigrants or foreign nationals during the checks so far. Authorities added that border entry points remain under strict surveillance, and that the drive will be further intensified in the days ahead.
The Inner Line Permit (ILP) system is a protective measure for indigenous populations, requiring non-residents to obtain permission before entering states like Manipur and others in the Northeast.
