Delhi, 19 July (H.S.): Union Minister of Agriculture, Farmers’ Welfare, and Rural Development, Shivraj Singh Chouhan, visited the Indian Council of Agricultural Research - Directorate of Groundnut Research in Junagadh, Gujarat, where he engaged with farmers and self-help groups (SHGs). He released a compilation of 50 inspiring success stories of Lakhpati Didis, women earning over ₹10 lakh annually under the National Rural Livelihood Mission (NRLM), and unveiled the institute’s Annual Report for 2024.
Chouhan celebrated Raksha Bandhan with the Lakhpati Didis and reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering SHG women to become millionaires. He noted that 1.5 crore women have achieved this status, with a target of 2 crore by August 15.
He asserted that SHG women are driving social change and emphasized the importance of women's participation in economic activities as envisioned by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He urged that proper skill training, timely credit, and infrastructure can enable women to excel. Chouhan encouraged women to continue their efforts and highlighted plans to boost their participation in the industrial sector, asserting their vital role in building a ‘Viksit Bharat’.
