Bhubaneswar, 19 July (H.S.): A high-level workshop focusing on the strategic implementation of Odisha Vision 2036 and 2047 was held today at Kharavel Bhavan in Bhubaneswar under the overarching theme “Viksit Odisha for Viksit Bharat.” The event marked a significant step towards aligning the state’s long-term development goals with the national vision of making India a developed nation by 2047.

The session was chaired by Smt. Usha Padhee, IAS, Principal Secretary of the Commerce & Transport Department and Housing & Urban Development Department, and was facilitated by experts from McKinsey & Company, the strategic knowledge partner for the Vision Document.

The workshop laid out Odisha’s developmental roadmap, which envisions achieving a GSDP of USD 1.5 trillion by 2047, contributing 5% to India’s GDP, and creating over 1 crore non-farm jobs. The blueprint for development is built around six foundational pillars: People First, Rural Empowerment, Prosperity for All, Legacy with Pride, Tech-led Growth, and People-Centric Governance.

One of the key highlights of the session was the unveiling of the “36 for 36” flagship initiatives, designed to drive transformation across critical sectors such as infrastructure, education, healthcare, skilling, tourism, agriculture, and climate resilience.

Participants examined pilot execution models, including a comprehensive plan for Sambalpur Municipal Corporation, illustrating how the broader vision would be translated into actionable outcomes at the local level.

Addressing the gathering, Smt. Usha Padhee stressed the importance of institutional capacity building, data-driven governance, and cross-departmental collaboration to ensure timely implementation and measurable progress. She also highlighted the adoption of modern tools such as real-time dashboards, embedded Project Monitoring Units (PMUs), and a Whole-of-Government approach to streamline project execution and accountability.

Departments have been entrusted with specific Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) to track progress and ensure effective delivery across various development schemes. The workshop saw active participation from senior officials of the Commerce & Transport and Housing & Urban Development Departments, who shared perspectives on the critical role of urban infrastructure and inter-agency coordination in shaping a resilient, inclusive, and developed Odisha.
