New Delhi, July 19(HS): Rahul Gandhi, Congress MP, criticized the central government for its ‘Make in India’ campaign, claiming it lacks support for small entrepreneurs. He questioned the fact that 80% of televisions in India come from China, arguing that the initiative only involves assembling instead of real manufacturing. He highlighted that components for products like iPhones and TVs are imported, and small entrepreneurs are eager to manufacture but face obstacles due to inadequate policy support.
Ground-level change is needed so that India moves beyond the assembly line to become a true manufacturing power and can compete with China on equal footing, he wrote in a post in Hindi on X.
Gandhi urged for substantial policy changes to empower small and medium enterprises, aiming for India to become a true manufacturing hub and compete with China for employment and development.
Gandhi shared a 7-minute video from his Greater Noida TV unit visit, stating 'Make in India' translates to 'Assemble in India,' while discussing the impact of a monopoly on part supply and margin reduction.
