Mysuru, 19 July (H.S.) : AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge has expressed disappointment over the misinformation being spread about Karnataka’s guarantee schemes — ironically, by those who have benefited from them.
He asserted that the Congress government launched these schemes for the welfare of the common people, and not for any political gain.
Speaking at the Sadhana Samavesha (Progress Meet) organized by the Congress government at the Maharaja’s College Grounds in Mysuru, Kharge said, “These schemes were not designed for Congress supporters alone. People from all parties and all walks of life are benefitted. Yet, some of them go on to criticize the government, claiming there’s no development and the state is collapsing.”
He added that even some Congress workers who keep meeting him, voice similar concerns, which he finds disheartening.
Responding to the opposition's allegation that the guarantee schemes have emptied the state treasury, Kharge said these claims are baseless. “If the government has no funds, how is it possible to allocate ₹50 crore to each Assembly constituency?” he questioned.
Kharge asserted that under Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s leadership, Karnataka will never face a financial crisis. “But if the BJP comes to power, the state will be left penniless,” he warned.
Key Highlights from Kharge’s Speech:
The guarantee schemes are being implemented effectively and serve as a model for other states.
BJP governments in other states have failed to implement such welfare schemes successfully.
“Had the Congress won 10 more Lok Sabha seats, Narendra Modi would not have returned to power,” Kharge claimed.
He accused the BJP and RSS of conspiring to alter the Constitution and pledged that Congress would not allow it.
Kharge launched a sharp attack on Prime Minister Modi, calling him “arrogant and egotistical,” and predicted that “one day, he will fall.”
Kharge’s remarks come at a time when Karnataka’s guarantee schemes, such as free bus travel for women and free electricity, are being closely watched across the country as potential welfare models.
