Civic volunteer accused of assaulting youth at Samudragarh railway station, tension grips area


East Bardhaman, 19 July (H.S.): A disturbing incident was reported on Saturday from Samudragarh Station in the Katwa rail section under Kalna subdivision of East Bardhaman district of West Bengal, where a civic volunteer allegedly assaulted a young man, resulting in the severing of one of his fingers.

According to the victim's family, the youth was attacked with a sharp object. The incident triggered tension and outrage in the station area. Locals are demanding strict action against the accused civic volunteer.

The injured youth was immediately admitted to Kalna Super Specialty Hospital for treatment.

Sources revealed that the incident occurred around 9 AM on Saturday when the young man, a resident of a nearby village, was sitting at the station using his mobile phone. Allegedly a civic volunteer dragged him into a room and beat him up severely.

While the victim’s family claimed that a sharp weapon was used, the Government Railway Police stated that the youth’s finger was severed when his hand accidentally hit an iron gate while being dragged.

Meanwhile, the situation in the area remains tense, and both police and GRP teams are present at the station to maintain law and order.
