Goalpara (Assam), 19 July (HS): The aftermath of Thursday’s eviction drive in the Paikan Reserve Forest continues to unfold, with police tightening their grip on those involved in the violent resistance.

Clashes erupted when locals allegedly attacked security personnel attempting to carry out the eviction. In a swift retaliation, law enforcement launched a coordinated operation across the Krishnai region, resulting in the arrest of 11 more suspects. This brings the total number of people taken into custody to 21.

Several accused are reportedly on the run, having fled to other parts of Goalpara district. Officials are now relying on video surveillance and digital evidence to identify and trace the absconders.

We're tracking every lead. The process won’t stop until every perpetrator is brought in, affirmed a senior officer involved in the operation.

To prevent further escalation, police presence around the eviction site has been significantly increased. The district administration, meanwhile, is maintaining a state of high alert to ensure stability returns to the troubled region.
