North 24 Parganas, 19 July (H.S.) In a major crackdown, police have recovered fake currency worth ₹10 crore from a guest house in Dhamakhali, located in West Bengal’s Sandeshkhali region. The operation has led to the arrest of two individuals. The authorities believe that some genuine currency notes may also be mixed with the counterfeit ones. The total amount seized could increase as the investigation progresses.

The massive haul was recovered from Room No. 206 of Hotel Royal, a property that has gained notoriety for being frequented by Sheikh Shahjahan, the alleged kingpin and terror figure of Sandeshkhali, along with his associate Shibu Hazra. The hotel is currently managed by Bappaditya Mondal, a close aide of Sheikh Shahjahan.

According to hotel sources, the two accused checked into the hotel on Friday around 1:30 PM, carrying several bags. The police conducted a search operation on Saturday morning, which led to the discovery of the huge stockpile of counterfeit currency.

The arrested individuals have been identified as Debabrata Chakraborty, a resident of Maheshtala in South 24 Parganas and Sirajuddin Molla, a resident of the Motordighi area under Jibantala Police Station

Police sources suggest that several other locations in Sandeshkhali may also be storing counterfeit currency, prompting ongoing raids across t

he region.
