Tehran, 13 June (H.S.): Iranian state media reports the death of Major General Hossein Salami, commander of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC), following an Israeli military strike. The Tasnim news agency confirmed that he was killed during an attack on the IRGC headquarters. Salami's role was significant within Iran's power structure, which oversees the nation’s ballistic missile program.

Alongside Salami, Israel claims to have targeted and eliminated other high-ranking military officials, including the chief of Iran's military, Mohammad Bagheri, as well as senior nuclear scientists, in the initial phases of its operations against Iran. The attack marks a notable escalation in the ongoing tensions between Israel and Iran.

The report indicated that some senior Israeli officials have been relocated to 'secret locations' amid Israel's efforts to target senior Iranian officials. This escalation occurs alongside a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear sites, as tensions rise over Tehran's advancing nuclear program. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced Operation Rising Lion, aimed at neutralizing the Iranian threat, emphasizing that the operation will persist until the threat is abolished. He highlighted Iran's historical calls for Israel's destruction and their nuclear ambitions, citing the production of enough highly-enriched uranium for nine atomic bombs.

The IRGC, Iran's Revolutionary Guards, is an elite military force established post-1979 Islamic Revolution, wielding significant power across military, political, and economic spheres, with its Quds Force handling foreign operations.
