EC Roll Observer Reviews Voter Records In Kolkata’s Tiljala Amid Intensified SIR Monitoring

Kolkata, 9 December (H.S.): As part of the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls in West Bengal, the Election Commission’s Roll Observer C. Murugan on Tuesday conducted a detailed inspection of voter records in Kolkata’s Tiljala area. The review comes at a time when the Commission has stepped up scrutiny across the state to ensure a clean and error-free voters' list ahead of the upcoming elections.

Murugan, an IAS officer appointed for South 24 Parganas district and the Kolkata Dakshin Lok Sabha constituency, held discussions with Booth Level Officers (BLOs) and examined voter data in depth. His inspection covered legacy documents, including records dating back to 2020, and verification of parent-linkage papers. This visit followed his recent field inspection in Kakdwip a few days earlier.

To strengthen field-level monitoring, the Election Commission has recently deployed five senior IAS officers as Special Roll Observers for different divisions of West Bengal. These officers are tasked with closely supervising the SIR process to ensure there are no lapses during the voter-roll update exercise.

According to the revised schedule issued by the Commission, the last date for submitting SIR enumeration forms is December 11. The draft electoral roll will be published on December 16, 2025, while the final voters’ list is scheduled for release on February 7, 2026. The extension aims to give more citizens the opportunity to update or correct their details.

Officials said the intensified inspections and strict monitoring on the ground are intended to prepare an accurate, transparent and reliable electoral roll well ahead of next year’s elections.
