Kolkata, 9 December (H.S.):

The mortal remains of Subhash Chettri (24), a resident of Bagdogra in Siliguri who died in a tragic cylinder blast at a Goa nightclub on Sunday night, were brought back home on Tuesday, plunging the entire locality into grief.

According to family sources, Subhash had moved to Goa in 2023 due to financial difficulties and had been working as a chef in the nightclub where the fatal accident occurred. The massive blast claimed the lives of 25 people, including Subhash, who hailed from the Banurchat area of Bagdogra.

An emotional atmosphere prevailed when Subhash’s body arrived at Bagdogra Airport and was later taken to his residence by ambulance. His mother, Tanka Maya Chettri, was inconsolable as relatives and neighbours gathered to pay their respects.

Former MLA Choton Kisku, Siliguri Mahakuma Parishad Assistant Sabhadhipati Roma Reshmi Ekka and several local leaders visited the residence to offer condolences and stand by the grieving family.

Relatives said Subhash was the sole earning member of the household, and his death has left the family devastated. Former MLA Kisku assured the family that he would extend all possible support during this difficult time.
