Jammu, 9 December (H.S.): The Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Sangharsh Samiti today staged a strong protest outside the office of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in Katra demanding rollback of admissions in SMVD Institute of Medical Excellence.

A large number of members and representatives of various social organisations joined the protest, led by the convener of the Samiti, Colonel (Retd) Sukhvir Singh Mankotia.

During the protest, brief scuffles took place between Policemen and the demonstrators when the latter attempted to enter the Shrine Board office.

Addressing the protesters, Col. Mankotia expressed deep dissatisfaction over the Shrine Board management’s response to their demands so far. He said that despite repeated appeals, no positive indication has been given, forcing the Samiti to intensify the agitation.

“It is unfortunate that the Shrine Board, which runs on the offerings of Hindu devotees from across the country and the world, is being associated with actions contrary to Sanatan values,” he said.

Mankotia further asserted that admitting 45 students from only one community is completely unfair and those who have unwavering faith in Mata Vaishno Devi must have the first right over an institution built and run with devotees’ contributions.

Parshotam Dadhichi, President of Shri Sanatan Dharam Sabha J&K, also addressed the gathering and warned that if such decisions of the Shrine Board are not stopped now, they may set a dangerous precedent for the future. He said the agitation will intensify if the controversial selection list is not cancelled immediately.

Later, a delegation of the protesters met the Additional CEO of the Shrine Board and submitted a memorandum, following which the protest concluded peacefully.

The Samiti reiterated that the movement will continue until their demands are met and transparency is ensured in the functioning of the Institute.
