New Delhi, 9 December (H.S.): Union Minister of State for Textiles Pabitra Margherita on Tuesday described National Handicrafts Week as a celebration of India’s rich heritage and the strength of its rural economy, calling handicraft artisans a symbol of creativity, perseverance, and artistic legacy.
In a post on X, Margherita said the seven-day observance from December 8 to 14 is a significant occasion to honour skilled artisans across the country who, through their craft, not only preserve India’s centuries-old traditions but also enrich them. He noted that this special week encourages citizens to appreciate the extraordinary spirit and intricate skills that underpin India’s diverse craft traditions.
The Minister underlined that by blending traditional techniques with contemporary design, Indian artisans are showcasing their prowess on the global stage. National Handicrafts Week, he said, underscores that by purchasing and valuing handmade products, people help safeguard three invaluable assets: identity, dignity, and heritage.
Margherita added that the week is not merely a celebration, but also a platform to motivate citizens to support artisans and to carry forward India’s vibrant handicraft legacy.
