
Los Angeles, 9 December (H.S.): Leonardo DiCaprio’s critically acclaimed film One Battle After Another has stormed into Hollywood’s awards season, leading the 2026 Golden Globe nominations with nine nods announced on Monday. The Warner Bros. drama, hailed for its gripping portrayal of a former revolutionary’s daughter’s kidnapping, is nominated for Best Musical/Comedy Film, with DiCaprio and co-stars Sean Penn, Teyana Taylor, Benicio Del Toro, and Chase Infiniti all competing in the acting categories.
Close behind is the multilingual family drama Sentimental Value with eight nominations, followed by Sinners with seven and Hamnet with six.
Other strong contenders include Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and the musical sequel Wicked: For Good.
Despite its global box office triumph, Wicked: For Good failed to secure a Best Film nomination but earned recognition in the Box Office Achievement category.The Golden Globes, set to take place in Los Angeles on January 11, mark a crucial milestone on the road to the Oscars in March.
This year’s diverse lineup spans major international entries, including Iranian filmmaker Jafar Panahi’s It Was Just an Accident—a powerful revenge drama that earned four nominations.The acting nominations feature a mix of veteran stars and fresh faces. George Clooney received his 14th Golden Globe nomination for Jay Kelly, while Adam Sandler earned a supporting actor nod for the same film.
Emma Stone was nominated for her role in Bugonia, alongside co-star Jesse Plemons. Irish actors Paul Mescal and Jessie Buckley were both recognised for their performances in Hamnet.In television categories, British drama Adolescence emerged as a major contender with four acting nominations—for Stephen Graham, Owen Cooper, Erin Doherty, and Ashley Walters—and a nod for Best Limited Series.
Only HBO’s The White Lotus surpassed it with six nominations, including Best TV Drama.Among notable surprises were acting nominations for Emily Blunt in The Smashing Machine and indie filmmaker Eva Victor for Sorry, Baby, which she also wrote and directed. Jeremy Allen White scored dual nominations for portraying Bruce Springsteen in Deliver Me From Nowhere and for his comedic performance in The Bear.
The ceremony, to be hosted once again by Nikki Glaser, will also honour music and global cinema. Avatar: Fire and Ash and KPop Demon Hunters lead the Best Song category with their hits Dream as One and Golden, while Radiohead’s Jonny Greenwood competes for Best Original Score for One Battle After Another.
As awards season intensifies, DiCaprio’s film remains the one to beat—but industry watchers caution that early frontrunners often face an uphill battle maintaining momentum.
