New Delhi, 9 December (H.S.): In a unique initiative blending tradition with modernity, India Post inaugurated Kerala’s first Gen-Z Post Office Extension Counter at CMS College, Kottayam, on Tuesday, marking a new era in how younger generations engage with postal services. The facility was inaugurated by N.R. Giri, Director of Postal Services (Kerala Central Region).Designed around the concept “of the students, by the students, for the students,” the extension counter was conceptualized and co-created by CMS College students in collaboration with India Post officials.

The space represents a fusion of creativity, sustainability, and digital connectivity, transforming a traditional postal counter into a vibrant, youth-centric community hub.The new facility features a nature-themed seating zone with picnic-style tables, a vertical garden, and eco-friendly furniture made from refurbished tyres.

It also includes a work-friendly counter equipped with charging points, a reading and recreation corner, and a fully functional booking counter with packaging materials and a MyStamp printer, ensuring easy access to postal and philatelic services.

Adorned with artwork created by students and staff, the interiors celebrate India Post’s rich legacy, Kerala’s cultural heritage, and Kottayam’s identity as the ‘Land of Letters’. The outlet doubles as a work café, community meet-up point, and creative space, reflecting a perfect blend of modern aesthetics and traditional values.

Union Minister Jyotiraditya M. Scindia shared visuals of the facility on social media, describing it as “refreshing, creative, and rooted in tradition.” The initiative, part of the Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav celebrations, highlights India Post’s evolving engagement with the youth, ensuring its services remain relevant, accessible, and inspiring for the new generation.
