New Delhi, 9 December (H.S.): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) may soon seek Interpol’s assistance to trace Saurabh and Gaurav Luthra—the owners of the Goa nightclub where a fire claimed 25 lives on Saturday night—after the duo reportedly fled to Thailand hours after the tragedy.
According to officials, the brothers boarded a flight from Mumbai to Phuket at 5:30 am on Sunday, barely hours after an FIR was lodged against them. A police team dispatched to their Delhi residences found both missing, prompting authorities to paste notices outside their homes. Later, the Bureau of Immigration issued a lookout circular (LOC) at the request of Goa Police.
Investigators believe the blaze at Birch by Romeo Lane was triggered by pyrotechnics during a dance performance. Five individuals linked to the event’s management have already been arrested. Officials said coordination between Goa Police and the CBI’s Interpol division is underway “to trace and apprehend the absconding accused at the earliest.”
With the accused now outside India, authorities are considering requesting a Blue Corner Notice through Interpol—an international system enabling member countries to exchange information about suspects’ identities, locations, or movements across borders.
What The Blue Corner Notice Means
A Blue Corner Notice is issued to gather information about a person’s whereabouts in relation to a crime. It is not an arrest warrant but helps countries monitor the movement of individuals under investigation.
Interpol, headquartered in Lyon, France, operates with 196 member nations and coordinates global crime-fighting efforts through eight types of color-coded notices. These include the Red Notice for provisional arrest and extradition, the Yellow Notice for locating missing persons, and the Orange Notice for alerting about imminent threats such as explosives or weapons.
As the Luthra brothers remain at large, Indian authorities are intensifying efforts to bring them back to face trial over what many describe as one of Goa’s worst nightclub tragedies in recent memory.
