Guwahati, 09 December (HS):
A series of visionary initiatives undertaken by the BJP-led Assam Government under the leadership of Chief Minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma has unlocked new possibilities in the State’s tourism sector. The conferring of World Heritage Site status upon the Charaideo Maidams, the construction of a grand park along with the towering statue of Lachit Borphukan in Jorhat, the mega project underway at the birthplace of Mahapurush Srimanta Sankardeva at Batadrava Satra, the newly inaugurated world-class cricket stadium at Umrangso and the vast modern riverside park developed at Uzanbazar in Guwahati—all these projects are poised to bring a transformative shift in Assam’s tourism landscape. Significant measures have also been taken to promote river tourism.
Thanks to the sustained efforts of the Government and the peaceful atmosphere restored in the State, new-age ideas such as “Concert Tourism” have begun to flourish in Assam. Addressing the media at the State Headquarters, Atal Bihari Vajpayee Bhawan, Basistha, BJP spokesperson Kalyan Gogoi said that Assam is set to emerge as a “Cultural Hub” on the world map in a very short time. The resounding success of globally acclaimed music artist Post Malone’s concert in Guwahati has significantly enhanced global interest in Assam. The arrival of thousands of fans from across India and abroad to attend the concert has positively impacted the State’s tourism profile, offering Assam a distinct new identity. Notably, the concept of “Concert Tourism,” which resonates widely with the younger generation, has now become a major topic of public discussion.
The spokesperson further added that BJP State President and Member of Parliament from Darrang-Udalguri, Dilip Saikia, has raised a strong demand in the Lok Sabha under Rule 377, urging the Government of India to include the North-East region on the global tourism map and to constitute a dedicated “North-East Tourism Circuit.”---------
