Chennai, 7 December (H.S.) : The Superintendent of Police (SP) in Erode has rejected the request submitted by Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) to hold a public meeting for actor-politician Vijay on December 16. The rejection follows a personal inspection of the private venue that the party had proposed for the event.
The TVK, through its Chief Coordinator K.A. Sengottaiyan, had formally approached the Erode district administration seeking clearance for the event, clarifying that they had postponed the originally proposed roadshow in favor of a controlled public meeting due to prevailing safety concerns.
This caution was largely in response to the tragic stampede that occurred at a public meeting in Karur, which led to authorities implementing stricter crowd-control measures and favoring indoor or private venue meetings over open-road programs.
Despite the party's caution, the SP’s decision to reject the plea was made after an on-site evaluation, indicating that the proposed venue did not meet the necessary criteria for hosting the large political gathering.
