Chennai, 7 December (H.S.) : Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-politician Vijay, has submitted a formal representation to the Erode district administration seeking permission for a public meeting scheduled for December 16 at a private venue in the district.
K.A. Sengottaiyan, the party's Chief Coordinator, handed the petition to the Erode District Collector, requesting official clearance while promising to comply with all prevailing government guidelines and safety norms.
The party has chosen a controlled public meeting at a fixed, private location instead of the roadshow initially planned, a decision made in light of recent tragic incidents, such as the stampede that killed 41 people at a public meeting in Karur on September 27.
The Karur tragedy prompted authorities to tighten safety and crowd control regulations for large public gatherings. Sengottaiyan, a recent defector from the AIADMK, also noted that political realignments, including the potential joining of former Ministers, remain a speculation that the Erode event may clarify.
District officials are expected to carefully review the request, focusing on venue capacity, traffic management, and emergency preparedness before making a final decision on the high-profile event, which is intended as a major political mobilisation effort for the TVK in Western Tamil Nadu ahead of the upcoming Assembly elections.
