- Reaffirms Focus on Development and Land Reforms in Assam
Guwahati, 07 December (HS): The BJP on Sunday accused the Congress of enabling large-scale illegal encroachment on government land in Assam over several decades. The party said records show that successive Congress governments allowed unauthorized occupation to spread across the state.
Under Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma, the BJP claimed that nearly 1,30,000 bighas of Satra land, forest areas, water bodies and other state land have been cleared from what was earlier over 60 lakh bighas under illegal occupation. The eviction drive is still underway, party leaders said.
The BJP also highlighted the Chief Minister’s recent decision to grant land rights to residents of tea garden areas, calling it a widely welcomed move. It condemned certain Congress leaders for allegedly trying to create unrest following remarks made in Dibrugarh.
BJP spokesperson Brojen Mahanta said people in Assam now prioritize development, peace and lasting solutions, while the Congress continues to engage in what the party terms appeasement politics.----------
