PARIS, France, 2 November (H.S.): Two more individuals have been charged in connection with the audacious daylight robbery at the Louvre Museum on October 19, 2025, bringing the total number of people charged to four, the Paris prosecutor's office announced on Saturday. The heist involved the theft of eight precious jewels valued at €88 million ($102 million).
A 38-year-old woman faces charges of complicity in organized theft and criminal conspiracy, while a 37-year-old man is charged with theft and criminal conspiracy. Both have denied any involvement but have been ordered to remain in pre-trial detention. Two other men, who were arrested earlier, have partially recognized their roles in the theft.
The robbery, which has been labeled a national embarrassment, was executed in just four minutes. The thieves used a vehicle-mounted mechanical lift to access the Galerie d'Apollon through a balcony, broke into display cases with a disc cutter, and escaped on scooters.
One stolen crown was dropped during the escape, but the other seven priceless jewels remain missing .The incident has exposed significant security failures at the world-famous museum .
Culture Minister Rachida Dati admitted that for years, museum authorities had gravely underestimated the risks of intrusion and theft. It was revealed that the only camera monitoring the gallery was not pointing at the balcony used by the thieves.
While the investigation continues with over 100 officers assigned to the case, there is growing fear that the unrecovered jewels have already been taken out of the country and may be dismantled. In the wake of the heist, the Louvre has transferred some of its most valuable remaining pieces to the Bank of France for safekeeping.
