Mirzapur, 02

Nov (HS): In Pachewara village, located in the Chunar police station area of

Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, a married woman, distressed by dowry demands and

harassment, took her own life by consuming poison. The incident sent shockwaves

through the entire village. According to reports, Shivendra Kumar Singh, a

resident of Mangraha village, married his 23-year-old daughter, Anshi Singh, to

Ajit Singh, a resident of Pachewara village, on April 20, 2025. It is alleged

that since the marriage, Ajit Singh and his family have been physically and

mentally abusing the married woman over dowry demands.

According to

family members, Anshi Singh, upset by the constant harassment, consumed some

poisonous substance last night at around 11 p.m. When her condition worsened,

she was taken to a private hospital in Kailahat, where she died during

treatment.

Upon learning

of the incident, the victim's parents rushed to the hospital and accused the

in-laws of pushing their daughter to death for dowry. Based on a complaint from

the victim's father, police have registered a case of dowry harassment and

abetment to suicide against four people, including the victim's husband, Ajit

Singh. Police have taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem

examination and have begun investigating the case.
