Nov (HS): In Pachewara village, located in the Chunar police station area of
Mirzapur, Uttar Pradesh, a married woman, distressed by dowry demands and
harassment, took her own life by consuming poison. The incident sent shockwaves
through the entire village. According to reports, Shivendra Kumar Singh, a
resident of Mangraha village, married his 23-year-old daughter, Anshi Singh, to
Ajit Singh, a resident of Pachewara village, on April 20, 2025. It is alleged
that since the marriage, Ajit Singh and his family have been physically and
mentally abusing the married woman over dowry demands.
According to
family members, Anshi Singh, upset by the constant harassment, consumed some
poisonous substance last night at around 11 p.m. When her condition worsened,
she was taken to a private hospital in Kailahat, where she died during
treatment.
Upon learning
of the incident, the victim's parents rushed to the hospital and accused the
in-laws of pushing their daughter to death for dowry. Based on a complaint from
the victim's father, police have registered a case of dowry harassment and
abetment to suicide against four people, including the victim's husband, Ajit
Singh. Police have taken the body into custody and sent it for a post-mortem
examination and have begun investigating the case.
