Mumbai, 01 Nov (HS): First correct the voters list and only then conduct

the local body elections, if almost every political party is talking about

problems in the list. Only then the face of the most popular party will come to

the fore, said Chief of Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) Raj Thackeray. The

fake voters should be ‘properly’ handled by the people before handing them to

the police, he added.

Thackeray was addressing a ‘Satyacha Morcha’ (Rally for the Truth) in

Mumbai on Saturday. Workers of MNS, Shiv Sena (UBT), Nationalist

Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), CPM, PWP and others participated in the march,

which moved through the Fashion Street, Metro Cinema and culminated near the

Bombay Municipal Corporation’s gate.

Raj Thackeray said that he has come with a list of voters registered

more than once, and the march has been organised to show the strength of the

people. The issue should reach the rulers in Delhi, he added.

He alleged that over 4,500 voters from Kalyan rural, Dombiwali, Murbad

and Bhiwandi who also vote at Malbar Hill constituency. Out of the 1,73,9456

voters in North Mumbai, 62,370 are double voters, as on July 1, 2025. In Mumbai

North-West double voters are 60,231, in North-East 92,983, in Mumbai North

there are 63,740 double voters, in South-Central they are 50,565 in number, and

in Mumbai South 55,205 voters have double registration, Thackeray also quoted

information about other constituencies having double voters during the Lok

Sabha elections, including Nashik – 99,673, Mawal – 1a45,636. He showed a list

of double voters during the rally. He alleged that many voters have address of

the Navi Mumbai’s Municipal Commissioner’s residence and even toilets. How can

the democracy survive with such anomalies in the voters list?

The Election Commission should take a note of the follies in the voters

list and conduct elections only after the list is corrected, Thackeray said.
