Muslim couple file petition in SC seeking women's entry in mosques
New Delhi, Apr 15(HS): A Muslim couple on Tuesday filed a petition in the Supreme Court allowing Muslim women to enter mosques and offer prayers. The apex court listed the petition for a hearing tomorrow which was filed by a couple Yasmeej Zuber Ahmad Peerzade and Zuber Ahmed Peerzade who are residents of Maharashtra. The couple also opposed the segregation of genders at the mosques. Earlier, the apex court in a landmark judgment allowed the entry of women belonging to all age groups from entering Kerala''s Sabarimala temple. According to the petition, prohibition of women inside mosques is unconstitutional, illegal and violates Articles 14,15, 21, 25 and 29 of the Indian constitution. The petition states that Islam does not discriminate between men and women offering prayers inside the mosques. At present, women are barred from the entry in predominant Sunni denomination and allowed in mosques under the Mujahid and Jamaat-e-Islami denominations. The entry of women in the mosques currently allowed separate entrances and enclosures. Hindusthan Samachar/Rahul \
