SC to look into EC's
New Delhi, Apr 15 (HS): The Supreme Court rebuked the Election Commission''s directed action against those political parties violating the Model Code of Conduct (MCC). The apex court on Tuesday is due to hear a plea examining the action taken by election watchdog against all the political parties seeking votes during election campaign on the basis of caste, religion, community etc. The Chief Justice, Ranjan Gogoi rebuked the EC asking list of all the political leaders sent notices violating the model code of conduct implemented during the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. The CJI asked the poll panel about the action taken against the Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath''s comment "Modiji Ki Sena". In its reply, EC quashed the case against him despite sending multiple notices citing its domain of action. After Adityanath, BSP supremo Mayawati was sent notice for seeking votes from the Muslim community while campaigning at a Deoband rally and refrained from splitting their vote neither to Congress but the opposition alliance of SP-BSP-RLD. The SC reacted heavily on the EC representative officer saying whether the institution was unaware of its powers and the Chief Election Commissioner would be held accountable if it was unable to act. The court said it would examine the matter with a representative officer from EC to appear before the court hearing. Hindusthan Samachar/Rahul
