Prez, VP, PM pay tribute to the architect of Indian Constitution
New Delhi, Apr 14 (HS): President Ram Nath Kovind, Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu and Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid homage to the architect of the Indian Constitution Dr BR Ambedkar on his 128th birth anniversary. Kovind paid floral tributes at the statue of Dr Ambedkar at the Parliament House Lawns in New Delhi this morning. “Dr. Ambedkar was an outstanding leader of our freedom struggle and a staunch crusader for the rights of the downtrodden and traditionally disadvantaged sections of our society. A scholar, educationist, legal luminary, social reformer and political leader, Dr. Ambedkar’s philosophy and life are an inspirational profile of courage and conviction,” he said. “Dr. Ambedkar envisioned a society where the weaker sections, the historically deprived, peasants, labourers, and especially women, get equal rights and respect. He was an ardent advocate of resolving all issues through democratic, peaceful, non-violent and harmonious means. The path shown by him strengthens the spirit of fraternity, compassion and equity,” he added. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Social Justice and Empowerment Minister Thawarchand Gehlot, Ministers of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale and Vijay Sampla and Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Vijay Goel were among the dignitaries who also paid tributes to Dr Ambedkar. Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu today remembered Bharat Ratna Dr BR Ambedkar on his Jayanti. In a tweet, Naidu said, Dr Ambedkar left an indelible footprint on the sands of contemporary Indian history. He said, a social reformer, legal luminary and an erudite scholar, Dr Ambedkar was a champion of people’s rights. The Vice President said, Dr Ambedkar relentlessly campaigned against social discrimination and inequalities and was a firm believer in the empowerment of women through education. He said, Dr Ambedkar''s contribution to nation building is invaluable and his ideas will continue to inspire every Indian for all times.
