Amit Shah, Mamata held simultaneous rally within Darjeeling constituency
Darjeeling/Kalimpong/Kolkata, Apr.11 (HS): Holding two separate high pitched election rallies in the hill areas of Darjeeling district simultaneously today, and that too only 15 km apart, BJP All India President Amit Shah and West Bengal Chief minister Mamata Banerjee politically tore apart one another thorough their fiery speeches, while seeking wholehearted support from the voters for their respective candidates for Darjeeling Lok Sabha seat.Making a no hold bars speech at the beautiful and scenic hill station Kalimpong, after he was denied permission to hold a meeting in Darjeeling town, the BJP President blamed the Mamata Banerjee government for making no real development in Darjeeling hills and alleged that all her highly publicised projets for the hill people at a cost of several hundred crores of rupees, were done in papers only and they were nothing but an eyewash in every respect. Reiterating Prime minister Narendra Modi''s promise to the Gorkha people in the Hill district, the BJP President said they had nothing to fear and should not be swayed by the rumours, spread by the ruling party workers and the state government. The Gorkha people in Darjeeling district had nothing to do with the NRC and they would never be uprooted, as announced by the state government, Shah said and referred to the need for uprooting the Mamata Banerjee government at the earliest opportunity. Blaming the Chief minister for allegedly trying to become the Prime minister ''by default'' and had been sounding like and empty vessel with no substance, the BJP president assured the voters in Darjeeling of fast development and fulfilling of all their dreams if they ensured the return of BJP candidate from the Lok Sabha seat like what they did during the last three occasions. He also lambasted the pre poll alliance between Binay Tamang and the Chief minister, and once again urged the people to remain alert from these vested interests and should not fall pray into their trap and support BJP candidate Raju Singh Bista. Similarly, the Chief minister also lost no opportunity to vent her anger against the Prime minister and BJP once again and sought the support of the local residents to defeat the BJP candidate and ensure victory of TMC candidate Amar Singh Rai,a former MLA of Gorkha Janmukti Morcha, with huge margin.Citing the example of several developmental work done by her government since the removal of Bimal Gurung and bring peace to the hill areas to improve the law and order and the local economy, the chief minister squarely blamed the outgoing BJP MP Surinder Singh Ahluwalia for being an outsider and not visiting his constituency since his election in 2014. Now it remains to be seen how the voters in Darjeeling Lok Sabha constituency would respond to the call of both the heavyweight leaders of BJP and TMC and how their response would be reflected in the coming elections on 18 April when altogether three constituencies would go to the polls in the second phase.
