Voters defy Maoists threat, 56 pc polling in Gaya
Patna,11 Apr.(HS): Braving threats from Maoists and their election boycott call, the electorate in the four Left Wingh extremist affected constituencies turned to the polling centres in large numbers and in Gaya and Jamui, the per centage was more than 2014 polling. There was no adverse effect of the Chaitri Chhath festival in Magadh division and the scorching sun also failed to dampen the spirit of the electorate as in Gaya 56 pc and in Jamui-54 pc people exercise their rights of franchise. However,in Nawada and Aurangabad, it was lower compared to 2014 Chief Election officer, H R Sriniwas said polling passed off peacefully in all the four constitutenices. Authorities said the police defused explosives recovered at four different places in Magadh division today. Former chief minister, Jeetan Ram Manjhi is contesting as Grand Alliance candidate from Gaya and in Jamui, the chairman of the parliamentary board of LJP,Chirag Paswan is the NDA nominee. Ms Vibha Devi,wife of the jailed RJD leader, Rajballabh Yadav is the GA candidate from Jamui, where the NDA has fielded Chandan Kumar, a new entrant into politics. He is younger brother of former MP, Suraj Bhan. In Aurangabad,the sitting BJP MP, Sushil Kumar Singh is NDA candidate while a former MLA, Upendra Prasad is the GA candidate.
