SC agrees to hear review petition on 'Rafale'
New Delhi, Apr.10 (HS): Giving shock to Government of India before the first phase of general elections, the Supreme Court on Wednesday agreed to hear review petitions against its December 14 ruling on Rafale deal in the light of leaked classified documents published by a media house cited by the petitioners. The Supreme Court on Wednesday dismissed preliminary objections by the government in the review petitions in the Rafale fighter deal case. Furthermore, the top court is set to fix the date for final arguments in the Rafale review. The apex court rejected the plea of central government that dismissed the government’s preliminary objection claiming privilege over the documents. Earlier, the government argued that the said documents were highly sensitive to national security and they could not be disclosed in court as they are covered under the Official Secrets Act. The court said the review petitions over its ruling dismissing all petitions against India’s procurement of 36 Rafale fighter jets from France would be decided on merit. Now, court will also look into the pricing of the jet and selection of Indian offset partner of Dassault which manufactures Rafale. It will fix a date for hearing review petitions, later. Meanwhile, former minister Arun Shourie, one of the review petitioners, welcomed the court’s verdict. The opposition sounding this issue during this election season and attacking, scathingly against Narendra Modi led NDA government. Even, Rahul Gandhi has coined a slogan relating Modi as ''Chowkidar Chor Hai''. Hindusthan Samachar/Pramod
