India needs to be transparent in GDP growth statistics: Gita Gopinath
Says, there are still some issues related with the way of calculating GDP and the deflator New Delhi, Apr 10 (HS): India has been projected to grow at more than 7 per cent during the current fiscal year and country is at the centre of attention due to being one of the fastest growing economies in the world. Therefore, it is critical at this juncture that the figures about major economic indicators are communicated with transparency, said Gita Gopinath, a chief economist at International Monetary Fund (IMF). In an interview to a TV channel, she has said that she appreciated revisions made in updating and modernising national statistics in the year 2015 but still there are some issues related with the way of calculating GDP and the deflator, used as measure of inflation. National Statistics Commission is a prime statistics institution, whose two members including the head - PC Mohanan, have left the same, opposing the halting of National Sample Survey Office (NSSO) Survey that particularly shows unemployment in India is presently at highest level in last 45 years. This report has been leaked but government has not approved it officially. Hindusthan Samachar/Bharati/Ram\
