Facebook gears up to fight 'Fake News' for Lok Sabha polls
New Delhi, Apr 09 (HS): One of the most popular social media platforms, Facebook, has been under watch for affecting election results to fanning violence in recent times. Now, it has been compelled to pay attention to the matter of ''Fake News'' during Lok Sabha elections. To meet this end, Facebook has increased the number of employees working in safety and security from 10,000 to 30,000. 40 teams have been formed comprising hundreds of employees across three different cities viz., California, Dublin (Ireland) and Singapore - to remove fake news as soon as they appear on any of these three social media platforms - WhatsApp, Instagram and Facebook. These centres will also be assisted by Facebook''s New Delhi Office. Facebook has also entered into partnership with third party fact checkers so that fake news cannot be transmitted. For Lok Sabha elections'' purpose, the artificial intelligence (AI) and automated translations of 16 Indian languages with 10,000 more people with two more operation centres have been deployed by Facebook. According to sources, while Facebook and WhatsApp are separate social media platforms, the operation center to fight against false news will be coordinated. They have ensured right detection system.
