Meghalaya: 76K new voters pivotal to change the fate of candidates
There''s a triangular contest in Shillong constituency Shillong, Apr 09 (HS): In Meghalaya 19,14,795 electorate will exercise their franchise on April 11 for LS elections. The total number of new voters in Meghalaya has touched 76,000. They can play a major role in deciding the fate of the candidates. There are 3,167 polling stations spread all over the State. Of them, 704 are vulnerable polling stations, 249 are critical polling stations and 68 are both critical and vulnerable polling stations. An official said that 86 polling stations are along the international border with Bangladesh and 171 are along the inter-state border with Assam. In Shillong Constituency, the main contest will be between sitting Congress MP Vincent H Pala, United Democratic party nominee Jamino Mawthoh, who is also common candidate of ruling Meghalaya Democratic Alliance and BJP candidate Sanbor Shullai. In Tura the main contest will be between NPP candidate, who is also the common candidate of MDA Agatha Sangma and Congress nominee and former chief minister Mukul Sangma. The contest between former Lok Sabha Speaker Purno Sangma’s daughter Agatha and Mukul Sangma will be a battle to watch. Purno Sangma represented Tura Parliamentary seat in Lok Sabha several times.
