Haflong, Apr 08 (HS): In a bid to encourage more women voters to exercise their franchise, Dima Hasao district administration has decided to set up five all-women polling stations here during the second phase of the Lok Sabha polls slated on April 18. “Five women polling booths will be set up in Dima Hasao as per the Election Commission''s (EC) directions to set up polling stations entirely managed by women,” an official source said. These are: 158-NK Daulagupu LP School, 160-Suptd. of Sericulture Office, 166-Haflong Govt College, 168-Sainza Razi L.P.School and 178-District Social Welfare Office. All those deployed at such polling stations, including presiding officers, polling officers, micro observers and security personnel and other employees - will be women. This is an initiative towards gender equality and involving women''s participation in the electoral process. Apart from this three model polling booth 170-Asst. Engineer NFR office, 162-Haflong Town Razi Community Hall, 95-Maibang Kalibari LP School have been selected in the hill district with Assured Minimum Facilities (AMF). These polling booths will have provision for ramp to facilitate the PwD (persons with disabilities) voters, provision for drinking water, adequate furniture, medical kit, proper lighting facilities and electrical arrangements, help desk, toilets, shades, volunteers, queue management etc. BJP releases supplementary poll manifesto for Karbi Anglong, Dima Hasao: Meanwhile, while releasing the supplementary poll manifesto for Autonomous District (ST) Constituency, the three hill district committees of BJP- Karbi Anglong, West Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao said that the creation of Autonomous State under Article 244(a) of the Constitution of India will be the major poll plank for the party in the elections. The No 3 Autonomous District (ST) Constituency will go for voting during the second phase of polling on April 18. The supplementary manifesto was released in an election meeting at Hacha Aklam, Lorulangso, in Diphu in the presence of leaders of three hill district committees. The manifesto also stressed the need for direct funding by the Centre to the Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council (KAAC) and North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council (NCHAC). The manifesto promised for final implementation of all the clauses of memorandum of understanding (MoU) and memorandum of settlement (MoS), enhancement of allocation of funds to both the Autonomous Councils at par with the special category states of Northeast, prociding security inter-state and inter-district boundaries of Karbi Anglong and Dima Hasao, allocation of MPLAD fund at the ratio of 30% for Karbi Anglong, 30% for West Karbi Anglong and 40% for Dima Hasao, employment generation through development of forest and agro-based small industries, establishment of skill development centres at the easy reach of the unemployed youth, development of marketing network at the doorstep of farmers and artisans, exemption of MIL for candidates of Sixth Schedule areas in UPSC, restoration of Autonomous Council’s rights over mines and minerals and promotion of sports in the hill districts.
