Shillong, Apr 07 (HS): The 2019 polls have already become one of the worst when it comes to violations of the model code of conduct. Suspect cash, illegal liquor and drugs valued at over Rs 1,500 crore (approx) have been seized from across the country since parliamentary election schedule was announced by the Election Commission. In another case of alleged violation of the model code of conduct, unaccounted cash amounting to Rs 6.4 lakh was seized by a team of flying squad from two different persons while conducting a check at Hallydayganj under Selsella Assembly Constituency on Sunday. Selsella (ST) Assembly seat is going to by-election simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls to Tura and Shillong Lok Sabha constituencies on April 11. According to the Chief Electoral officer, F R Kharkongor, during checking by the flying squad team near Hallydayganj at about 10:45 am under Hallydayganj Police Station, an amount of Rs 4,80,000 was seized from one Saha and another amount of Rs 1,60,000 was also seized from one F. Seikh later. According to sources, the seized money has been kept in safe custody of Tura Treasury strong room. The Returning Officer of the area Ram Singh said that the duo had been asked to provide proof of ownership of the seized cash but none had come forward till till the time if filing this report.
