Chhatriya Chhatravas to get face lift, old legacy to be restored
Chapra, Apr 07 (HS): Historical Chhatriya Chhatravas (Hostel) sprawling over several bighas of land, adjoining Jagadam and Rajput High school will get a face lift with many additions worth Rs 50 crores. People and politicians from different walks of life and parties have come forward with a plan and financial assistance to achieve this end and many have already donated money to the tune of more than Rs 50 lakhs. This will be made four storey which will accommodate 300 needy students. A well equipped library, a sprawling hall for social, academic and cultural activities will also be constructed. Old glory and legacy of the hostel will be restored. Work for second storey has already begun and after the elections hundred students will start staying here. This a property of Chhatriya Maha Sabha which was started in 1912 for the purpose of helping the poor and meritorious students of Chhatriya Samaj for achieving higher education. Many students who stayed at this hostel went on to become men of repute and had earned name and fame. Great economist Gorakh Nath Singh had stayed at this hostel who later went to England for higher studies. Great economist Hicks was his class mate. When Hicks had come to India he had inquired about Gorakh Nath Singh and the then Prime Minister Jawahar Lal Nehru had searched for him. At that time Gorakh Babu was teaching at Patna university. He was taken to Delhi by special plane. Justice of Patna High court late Birendra Narayan Singh, late Krishna Deo Narayan Singh, parliamentary secretary, govt. of Bihar, Mitilesh Singh former minister Govt. of Bihar are few names who had stayed at this hostel. After becoming deputy speaker of Rajya Sabha, Hari Vansh had come to this hostel remembering his stay at this hostel. This hostel had become barren in 1992 and a BMP unit was stationed here for four years. After that, it remained abandoned. The building and campus became dilapidated. During last two years some conscious persons started taking interest and found the lost papers and made a committee. Present secretary Nagendra Singh had made great efforts to bring the cause of this hostel in light. Later, people started attaching themselves. One of the joint secretaries Shailendra Kumar Singh said that Saran MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy has contributed Rs 25 lakhs. Maharajganj MP Janardan Singh Sigriwal has also contributed the same amount. Deputy speaker Hari Vansh has also assured to do his best for restoring the glory and legacy of this hostel. Vice president Dr. Rajiv Kumar has given Rs 11 lakhs. Till now Rs 50 lakhs have been donated and the work is on, he said. Shailendra Singh further said that this hostel would also accommodate the idols of great personalities who had stayed at this hostel. He said that MP Rajiv Pratap Rudy has assured to make it splendid and majestic and this would be called as one of the ‘Art of India’. Present president Kameshwar Singh has also contributed sufficient amount and has assured to meet the requirements. He said that within this year the project would be completed which would be a great gift to Chapra and the region. He said that this hostel would be made self reliant with multiple amenities.
