Another illegal gun factory un-earthed in Kolkata before poll
Kolkata, Apr.6 (HS): For the second time in two days, members of the Special Task Force (STF) of Kolkata Police today unearthed another illegal gun factory at Narayanpur area in Rajarhat, on the South Western outskirts of the City and recovered a cache of semi finished arms and large quantity of ammunition from there like before. Informing this police told Hindusthan Samachar here this evening that acting on a tip off a team of STF officials raided a small building at a remote area in Narayanpur, at the far end of the city''s IT hub Rajarhat, this evening and recovered at least ten semi finished 7 mm, 9 mm pistols and single shot guns from there along with several rounds of live cartridges One lathe machine and a metal polishing machine were also found inside the illegal gun factory, the sources said adding that two people had so far been arrested from the spot, both of whom believed to have come from Munger in Bihar,were now being interrogated. The trace of this second gun factory at Narayanpur which is situated near the first one,which was unearthed only two days ago following a similar tip off,has caused serious concern to the state administration particularly after the recovery of nearly 100 semi automatic pistols from these two places. Moreover, like the previous gun factory this small housewas being run in the guise of a small handicrafts making unit,the sources said and claimed that it was one of their major successes before the elections. Since the elections were announced on 10 March, more than 300 country made pistols,revolvers, pipe guns and one shoter guns have so far been recovered from different places in West Bengal along with huge number of live cartridges. In addition unaccounted gold bars, gold biscuits, gold ornaments and hard cash worth more than Rs 250 crores have also been seized by the STF and Excise officials during the past three weeks.
